Frequently asked questions

Answers to common TagLink Connect questions.

Who can use TagLink Connect?

TagLink Connect can be used by children, young people and adults who may benefit from an additional way for somebody to contact a trusted person. Suitability should be considered by the person, their family or carers and any organisation supporting them.

Who should activate it?

The wearer can complete activation themselves, or a family member, carer or other trusted person can help. During activation, enter the email address of the nominated contact who should receive scan messages. If the wearer is under 18, a parent, guardian or other appropriate responsible adult must complete and manage activation.

How should I explain the Band to a child or young person?

The Band should be explained in a way that suits the child or young person’s age, understanding and preferred way of communicating. Parents, carers and supporting adults can use or adapt the following explanation: “Your TagLink Band can help someone contact an adult you trust if you need help. Someone can scan the square code with a phone and send a message to your parent, carer or another adult you trust. The Band does not track where you are and does not show your name, address or contact details. You do not need to press anything or do anything to make it work. You can ask questions about the Band. If it feels uncomfortable or you do not want to wear it, tell an adult you trust.”

Does TagLink track someone’s location?

No. TagLink does not use GPS, Bluetooth or live-location tracking. Information about a location is only provided if the person scanning chooses to type it into their message.

Does anyone need an app or special device?

No. The wearer does not need a phone, app or TagLink account. There is no button to press, battery to charge or device to operate. The person helping simply scans the QR code using their smartphone camera and completes the message form. They do not need an app or account.

Are personal details, diagnoses or support needs displayed?

No. The Band and Wallet Card are deliberately neutral. They do not display the wearer’s name, diagnosis, SEND information or support needs. The trusted contact’s email address and other personal contact details are not shown to the person scanning. TagLink does not routinely request medical information, diagnoses, care plans or SEND records.

What happens when somebody scans it?

They are taken to a message page where they can explain the situation. The trusted contact receives an email containing the information they provide.

Is TagLink an emergency service?

No. TagLink is not monitored as an emergency service and an email notification may not be seen immediately. If someone is in immediate danger or experiencing a life-threatening emergency, call 999.

Is there a subscription, and can it be deactivated?

There is no monthly or annual subscription for the TagLink messaging service. The wearer or the adult managing the TagLink can stop using it at any time. Contact hello@taglink.co.uk if you would like it deactivated or need to change the registered email address.
